Our Beliefs

At Christ Lutheran Church, we hold to the historic Christian faith as taught in the Holy Scriptures and confessed in the Lutheran Confessions. Below is a summary of what we believe.

Scripture

We believe that the Bible is the Word of God. The Scriptures were inspired by the Holy Spirit and hence are inerrant (without error) and the only infallible guide to truth.

"And He said to them, O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!" — Luke 24:25

Trinity

We believe that God created the heavens and the earth, and that there is only one true God, but that in this one God there are three distinct Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God!" — John 1:1

Creation

We believe that God created man in His own image, righteous and good. However, the first man, Adam, fell into sin, and since that time all descendants have been born with a sinful nature.

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." — Genesis 1:27

Jesus

We believe Jesus is the Savior of the world, sent by God the Father in love to die on the cross and be raised again that we might receive forgiveness and everlasting life through faith in Him.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." — John 3:16

Baptism

We confess that Baptism is not just plain water, but it is the water included in God's command and combined with God's word. In baptism, God bathes us in the bath of regeneration and cleanses us by the washing of water with the word for the forgiveness of our sins.

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." — Matthew 28:19

Lord's Supper

We confess that the Lord's Supper is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ under the bread and wine, instituted by Christ Himself for us Christians to eat and drink. In the Lord's Supper, God seals to us the forgiveness of sins and confirms us in the new covenant.

"Take, eat, this is my body... This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." — Matthew 26:26–28

Confession

We teach that God has given authority to His Church on earth to bind and loose sins. When a person comes confessing his sins and calling on the name of the Lord Jesus for salvation, a Christian brother, acting as an ambassador for Christ, can then audibly pronounce the forgiveness of sins.

"Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven. If you retain the sins of any, they are retained." — John 20:22–23
